After losing the three ODI series to South Africa 2-1, we were hopeful the Australians could turn things around in the shorter version of the game.
The match was shortened even further as the rain pelted down on the Gold Coast but this did not help the Aussies. They were pitiful in their run chase.
It does not get any easier now as they take on the Indians in a three match T20 series.
Our preview of the first T20 can be found below.
Australia vs India T20 Game 1
Australia has plenty of attacking weapons at their disposal however many have simply failed to fire in either the One Day games or the first T20 against South Africa.
Their latest loss against South Africa on Saturday night was very frustrating to watch especially when the Aussies were at the crease.
Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis are all more than capable however they have been less than impressive.
Chris Lynn got a pearler of a yorker just as he was starting to get going on Saturday night, Marcus Stoinis is not seeing them well enough and Glenn Maxwell, although top scoring, never looked like threatening in the run chase.
The Indian team must have arrived on Australian soil full of confidence. I mean they are always confident but now more than ever.
They are currently ranked second in the world in this format of the game and have a formidable squad with a lot of depth.
Virat Kholi and Rohit Sharma with lead the team with the bat and Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal with the ball.
It is twenty over cricket in which anything can happen. Either team, on their day, are competitive with the best in the world but the Aussies are really struggling at the moment and there is no way I could back them with any confidence.
