Cronulla Sharks vs Canberra Raiders Preview
The Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks pulled off one of the great NRL wins to beat the Warriors while playing most of the match with only 12 men last week. Not quite as impressive, the Canberra Raiders snuck past the Bulldogs 14-4 at GIO Stadium.
Will Kennedy’s suspension has forced Nicho Hynes into fullback. Braydon Trindall will start in the Sharks halves. Meanwhile, Connor Tracey is into the centres for Jesse Ramien. The Raiders have lost Jarrod Croker again with Seb Kris into the centres and Xavier Savage onto the bench.
The Sharks will be high on confidence heading into this one and not even a change to the spine will worry them too much. Hynes will lineup at fullback but expect to see him handle the ball more than any other #1 in Round 9. He’s a high-involvement player and that will likely continue despite the position change. He will slot seamlessly into their dangerous shifts, and given the turnover in players out wide, the Raiders will struggle to close them down. While winning last week, the Raiders didn’t convince. They didn’t look entirely comfortable against a Bulldogs side that has rarely threatened throughout the 2022 NRL season. The Green Machine still carries demons of blown leads past and few teams are better positioned to pile up points in a hurry than the Sharks. It will take an 80-minute effort on both sides of the ball for the Raiders to cause an upset here. Unfortunately, they’ve not been able to do that all season and are unlikely to start on Sunday.
