Geelong Cats vs Melbourne Demons Preview
The last time the Demons faced the Cats they walked away comfortable 83-point winners with a Grand Final ticket in hand.
Chris Scott and his players won’t have forgotten that dismal night at Optus Stadium, and they’ll now have their chance at revenge on Thursday night in another massive 1st vs 2nd blockbuster at The Cattery.
Geelong enjoyed a nice percentage boost last week with a triple-digit win over North, while the Dees have also steadied the ship with two impressive wins over the Lions and Crows.
Both sides head into this clash almost injury free, meaning we should see some good contested footy, and judging by the bookies’ total, a potentially low-scoring game.
Scoring against the Dees and the Cats has been a tough challenge right throughout the year, so much so that both rank first and second respectively in average goals against.
That said, eight of the last 12 meetings between these two sides have gone Over, and it wouldn’t be surprising if that trend continues given the amount of scoring shots both teams have averaged over the last fortnight.
Winning the midfield battle is going to be crucial, and while both clubs match up almost evenly, Geelong does look to have a slight edge when it comes to fewer turnovers and average tackles.
The Dees showed last year they are one of few teams capable of winning at GMHBA, but after a couple of slow starts against the Lions and Crows, the Cats might just make them pay early.
