The Hurricanes were able to record their first win of Super Rugby Aotearoa against the Chiefs last weekend and the they will go into this clash with the Highlanders as clear favourites.
The first half performance from the Hurricanes was their best of the season to date but their poor discipline, with lock Scott Scafton yellow-carded, saw them let the Highlanders back into the game.
If the Hurricanes are able to reproduce that first-half effort, they are the equal of any side in Super Rugby Aotearoa and their is no doubt that their best rugby is better than that of the Highlanders.
The Crusaders proved too classy for the Highlanders last weekend, but they did play some good rugby at times and the clash was closer than the final margin suggests.
Winning away from home continues to be an issue for the Highlanders and the home side has won six of the past seven games played between these two sides, while the Highlanders have not won in Wellington since 2015.
I’m confident that the Hurricanes are a better side than their Super Rugby Aotearoa record suggests and they should prove too good for what is a fairly mediocre Highlanders outfit.
