Preview:

It’s been an extraordinary season at Anfield. Liverpool’s points total was huge, but somehow not huge enough to win the league while the squad Jurgen Klopp had assembled is absolutely fearsome.

Then there was the 4-0 win over Barcelona to overturn a 3-0 deficit from the first leg – as pulsating a match you’re ever likely to see.

It would be a failure if Liverpool lost the Champions League final to Tottenham and therefore ended such a formidable season with no silverware.

Klopp and his players will deny that but that’s only to release the pressure that’s on them to win.

The Reds have played in nine of these finals and won five times but their last two appearances (2007 and 2018) have been losses. It’s Tottenham’s first ever European Cup/Champions League final.

Tottenham will likely welcome back the injured striking star Harry Kane for the match in some capacity given he is training and seemingly over his injury. They also possess Son Heung Min who has had a wonderful season, and Christian Eriksen in midfield pulling the strings – as an effective player as there is in the world.

Don’t discount the stability of World Cup winning goalkeeper Huge Lloris and the unpredictability of winger Lucas Moura either.

But those weapons aren’t enough. While both defensive units are superb – headlined by the Reds’ Virgil Van Dijk and the Spurs Jan Vertonghen – this game is all about attacking firepower.

There are goals everywhere in Liverpool’s lineup while Spurs usually rely on Kane and Son.

If Mo Salah doesn’t score then you’ve got to deal with Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Georginio Wijnaldum or Daniel Strurridge and Divock Origi off the bench.

James Milner and Jordan Henderson can pop up with the odd goal from midfield too.

By the way, that doesn’t mean this will likely be a high scoring game.

There’s a feeling about Liverpool – a quiet determination rather than an anger or a jilted disgust – that tells The Wolf they will take the pressure of the Champions League final in their stride and win.

It will be just reward for a stunning season that will finally reap some success, even if it comes in the last possible game.
